MONDAY BYTES – December 3, 2012

There’s a movement afoot, questioning the value of college education and recommending the DIY approach and on-the-job learning.

Check out Saying No to College and the Uncollege site, which advocates for gap years and also skipping college all together and “replacing college with self-directed learning.”

This has been resonating for me because of the curriculum reform consultation work I’ve done recently and the ongoing concerns about student debt, as well as grade and degree inflation.

Maybe there’s something in the uncollege movement that those of us in academia can use.

Questions: What’s the best learning experience of your own college years?

To do: Notice when you’re learning anything new this week. And notice HOW you’re learning—how you mastered whatever it is—and how you know you’ve learned it.

Curious about working with me? Details are HERE.
