The Music Video Reinvented

MONDAY BYTES — June 30, 2014

This is the age of the Reinvented Music Video.

In an increasingly video-oriented culture, musicians are responding logistically, using video and live streaming for career / concert promotion as well as for performance distribution.

But musicians are also increasingly turning to video as an artistic media—not just to enhance the live and recorded performance experience (think Met simulcasts) but to transform the experience entirely.

Is the music video a new art form?

This week I took in the group OK Go’s latest viral music video The Writing’s on the Wall (4:16).

Here’s their behind the scenes video (4:32) of the making this latest project.

Questions for this week: What’s the most inventive music video you’ve seen lately? And how do you experience music differently with visual input?

As always, I welcome hearing your thoughts and feedback!
