How can you engineer more joy in your everyday life?
What activities connected with your work, could you re-engineer to improve your experience?
Most of us have daily or weekly chores we dislike or resent. Maybe it’s your commute, a specific household chore, practicing scales, or managing your finances.
Think about how you might re-engineer one of your disliked activities to make it, if not joyful, at least more fun. What could help you to lighten up, be present and engaged, and appreciate what or who is around you?
Instead of being mired in negative thinking, worries, resentment, or other ruts, think how we might re-imagine the experience.
We have the power to change our habits of perceiving the world: to change our perspective, and awaken to what might delight or fascinate us.
This is what entrepreneurs, artists, and other change agents have in common: the ability to re-imagine something better.
Why not direct your skills to the areas of life that you have resented or felt drained by?
Studio 360 put out a call for experiences in life people disliked. The number one issue people wanted to redesign for joy is Monday, especially the commute. Take a listen to this short Design for Joy podcast (6:12) about Ideo design director Ingrid Fetell’s current project.
This week: Experiment transforming your experience with one item on your list.
